Experience#
My first dedicated IT job was as the sole system administrator at the Corbin Public Library. I managed a complex technical environment with complete independence, both maintaining and improving upon over 70 endpoints. These endpoints ranged from Windows desktops, iMacs, and Chromebooks to printers (including 3D and resin models), servers, and IoT camera systems. In addition to general IT management, I took several steps to modernize the existing infrastructure. For instance, introducing Layer 2 technologies reduced our number of unmanaged switches from 15 to just 5, while improving speed and accessibility. Business data was another priority, and I secured it through the introduction of a BCDR plan that utilized incremental backups. Each change has helped further empower our 2,700 unique internet clients, who participate in over 150 digital sessions every day. To ensure that these improvements in security and efficiency remain in place beyond my tenure, I have documented every step of the way by writing guides and onboarding materials.
Education#
I was fortunate to live close to a university with a wide-ranging tech program, the University of the Cumberlands. The NSA has designated the Cumberlands’ in-depth cybersecurity courses as CAE-CD certified (National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense). This allowed me to explore the most up-to-date security practices required for contemporary tech trends, such as cloud computing and relational database design. At the same time, I also learned the foundations with classes such as business intelligence and info assurance. I can see myself returning to complete my online master’s at the Cumberlands once I have settled into Lexington, especially considering they feature strong information system security and blockchain degree programs.
